FACES OF THE BIG TEN
JaJuan Johnson, Purdue

In his first two years at Franklin Central High School in Indianapolis, JaJuan Johnson did not see action in a varsity basketball game. Fast forward to 2010, and Johnson has made a name for himself as one of the elite players in America. In early November, the 6-10 forward/center became just the second player in Purdue history, along with Glenn ?Big Dog? Robinson, to earn AP Preseason All-America honors. Johnson spent the summer of 2010 helping the U.S. National Team prepare for its gold medal-winning run at the FIBA World Championships as a member of the USA Men?s Select Team in both Las Vegas and New York.

Can't Touch This:
After the first two weeks of the 2010-11 college basketball season, eight Big Ten teams remain undefeated. Minnesota leads the conference with a 5-0 record, while Indiana stands at 4-0, Michigan, Northwestern, Ohio State, Penn State and Purdue are 3-0, and Michigan State is 2-0. Minnesota is off to its hottest start since 2008-09 when the Gophers opened up with a 12-0 mark. Indiana is riding its best start since 2007-08.

Putting Things in to Perspective:
After the first two weeks of play, the Big Ten is a combined 34-4 (.895), which ranks first in overall winning percentage among the ACC, Big 12, Big East, SEC and Pac-10 conferences. The Big East is second at .852, followed by the Big 12 (.850). The Big Ten also leads the way with 73 percent of its teams boasting undefeated records. The Big 12 is second (67 percent), followed by the Big East (63 percent). Big Ten teams are averaging 3.1 wins so far this season, which also leads the other five conferences. the Big East ranks second (2.9 wins per team), followed by the Big 12 (2.8).

Where They Rank:
The Big Ten leads the nation with two of the top three teams in the Associated Press (AP) and ESPN/USA Today Coaches polls. Michigan State remains at No. 2 in both polls, where it has been ranked since the preseason, while Ohio State comes in ranked No. 3 by both organizations. The Buckeyes had previously been ranked No. 4 by the AP and No. 5 by the coaches. Purdue is up four spots to No. 10 in the AP poll and up one place to No. 8 in the coaches' rankings. Minnesota enters the top 25 in each poll for the first time this season, ranked No. 15 by the AP and No. 17 by the coaches. Illinois rounds out the Big Ten's representation in the top 25 at No. 19 in both polls. Wisconsin is receiving votes outside the top 25 in each poll, while Northwestern is also receiving votes in the coaches' poll. With five ranked teams, the Big Ten is tied with the Big 12 for the lead among all conferences, and with four top-10 teams, the Big Ten is tied with the Big East.

Collecting Hardware:
Minnesota earned the Puerto Rico Tip-Off title over the weekend with wins over Western Kentucky, No. 8/8 North Carolina and West Virginia (rv/rv), improving the program's record to 70-40 all-time during in-season tournaments. Gopher junior Trevor Mbakwe was named the tournament's Most Outstanding Player after averaging 15.3 points and 8.7 rebounds over the three games, and was joined on the All-Tournament Team by teammate Blake Hoffarber. In New York, Illinois' Demetri McCamey was named to the All-Tournament Team for the 2K Sports Classic benefiting Coaches vs. Cancer. The senior averaged 21 points, 6.5 assists and four rebounds over two games in Madison Square Garden.

Coaches' Corner:
A pair of Big Ten head coaches achieved significant milestones last week with one grabbing his first win with his current team and another earning career win No. 600. First-year Iowa head coach Fran McCaffery got his first win with the Hawkeyes on Tuesday, a 68-40 victory at home against Louisiana-Monroe. On Sunday, Michigan head coach John Beilein picked up career win No. 600 with a home victory against Gardner-Webb. Beilein is in his fourth season with the Wolverines and his 33rd overall as a head coach. Beilein has served only as a head coach throughout his coaching career and joins Wisconsin's Bo Ryan as the only two active Big Ten coaches with 600 or more career wins.

You'd Better Watch Out:
The Big Ten leads all conferences with 10 players named to the John R. Wooden Award and Naismith Award preseason watch lists. Illinois' Demetri McCamey, Michigan State's Kalin Lucas and Durrell Summers, Northwestern's John Shurna, Ohio State's William Buford, Penn State's Talor Battle, Purdue's JaJuan Johnson and E'Twaun Moore and Wisconsin's Jon Leuer earned spots on both lists, while Buckeye freshman Jared Sullinger earned a spot on the Naismith watch list, and Purdue's Robbie Hummel was named to the Wooden watch list before suffering a season-ending injury.

Stay CLASSy:
The Big Ten leads all conferences with four players, Minnesota's Blake Hoffarber, Ohio State's David Lighty, Purdue's E'Twaun Moore and Wisconsin's Jon Leuer, named candidates for the Lowe's Senior CLASS Award. To be eligible for the award, a student-athlete must be classified as an NCAA Division I senior and have notable achievements in four areas of excellence - community, classroom, character and competition.

Life on the Big Stage:
This season, every Big Ten home game will be produced and distributed to a live national audience. The Big Ten Network, which is available in more than 75 million homes in the U.S. and Canada, will broadcast over 100 events on its linear channel or on www.BigTenNetwork.com. More than 75 games will be broadcast by an ESPN platform - ESPN, ESPN2, ESPNU or ESPN3, and CBS Sports will carry 15 games.
