TRICARE: The Basics

TRICARE is the Department of Defense health care programs worldwide to active duty and retired uniformed services members and their families. TRICARE consists of TRICARE Prime, a managed care option, TRICARE Extra, options provider of choice, and TRICARE Standard, the cost of service option. TRICARE For Life are also eligible for Medicare is eligible 65 years or older (from 1 October 2001) .*

TRICARE Prime:

TRICARE Prime is a managed care similar to civilian health maintenance organizations (HMOs). This option requires registration. Active duty members are required to enroll in the first.
