After redshirting his freshman season due to injury, Jordan Morgan has burst onto the scene for the Maize and Blue.� In his first season on the court, Morgan has started every game for the Wolverines in the post, is one of the team's top rebounders and is among the Big Ten leaders in field-goal percentage. Morgan's efforts to improve on the court this season are matched by his efforts off the court, as he is enrolled in Michigan's College of Engineering, one of the top-10 engineering schools in the nation.
The Week That Was:
With the fourth week of conference play in the books, Ohio State remains the lone undefeated team in the Big Ten standings at 7-0. Purdue is one game back at 6-1, while Wisconsin is two games out of first at 5-2. Illinois, Michigan State and Minnesota are tied for fourth with 4-3 records. Conference action continues on Tuesday as the Buckeyes and Boilermakers, the top two teams in the standings, meet in Columbus at 9 p.m. ET on ESPN.
Raking in the Rankings:
The Big Ten leads all conferences with 54.5 percent of its teams ranked in the latest Associated Press Poll. With six squads among the top 25, the Big Ten is second among all conferences, trailing only the Big East who has seven ranked teams. The Big Ten boasts the No. 1 team in the nation for the second straight week as Ohio State is the unanimous top selection. Purdue comes in at No. 12, followed by No. 16 Minnesota, No. 17 Wisconsin, No. 20 Illinois and No. 25 Michigan State. Penn State is receiving one vote outside the top 25. The Big Ten boasts five teams in the ESPN/USA Today Coaches Poll in No. 1 Ohio State, No. 12 Purdue, No. 15 Wisconsin, No. 18 Minnesota and No. 21 Illinois. Michigan State is the first team outside of the coaches top 25. Wisconsin's rankings are the team's highest of the season in both polls, while Minnesota holds its best spot in the coaches poll since Dec. 27. Illinois, Ohio State and Purdue have been ranked in the top 25 of both polls every week this season, while Michigan State has remained among the top 25 in at least one poll throughout the 2010-11 campaign.
Triple Threat:
Wisconsin freshman Josh Gasser put up 10 points, 12 rebounds and 10 assists in Wisconsin's win over Northwestern on Sunday. The triple-double was the first in the Big Ten this season and the first official triple-double by a freshman in conference history. Earvin "Magic" Johnson had 11 points, 10 rebounds and 13 assists as a freshman vs. Detroit in 1977, but assists were not recognized as an official stat at the time. Gasser's performance is the first triple-double in a Big Ten conference game since Illinois' Sergio McClain in 2001 and the first in a Big Ten road game since Northwestern's Evan Eschmeyer in 1999. Gasser is the 11th player in NCAA Division I and the first freshman to record a triple-double this season.
Phenomenal Freshmen:
Several Big Ten freshmen have made immediate impacts with their teams throughout the season. Ohio State's Jared Sullinger, Michigan's Tim Hardaway Jr. and Iowa's Melsahn Basabe rank first, second and third on their teams in scoring, and all are among the Big Ten's top 30 in points per game. Sullinger and Basabe also lead their respective squads in rebounding, while Michigan's Jordan Morgan is second, and all three rank in the Big Ten's top 15. Five of the conference's top 15 in shooting percentage are freshmen, with Morgan ranking second, followed by Sullinger (3rd), Basabe (5th), Illinois' Jereme Richmond (11th) and Ohio State's Deshaun Thomas (14th) all shooting above 50 percent on the year. This season, Big Ten freshmen have combined for 15 double-doubles, including the conference's only triple-double, and 15 20-point games with two performances of 30 points or better. Big Ten freshmen are also logging significant minutes on the court with nine averaging over 20 minutes played per game.
Twenty-Somethings:
Last week, 11 Big Ten players combined to record 12 performances of 20 or more points, including five of 25 points or more and one 30-point game. Purdue's JaJuan Johnson opened the week with a 25-point performance against Penn State on Wednesday before closing with 20 against Michigan State on Saturday. Johnson leads the Big Ten with 11 20-point games this season and is the conference's active career leader with 28. Boilermaker E'Twaun Moore posted a game-high 26 against the Spartans, upping his season and career totals to eight and 27, respectively. Indiana's Christian Watford recorded the week's highest single-game total, dropping a career-high 30 against Iowa on Sunday. Watford's performance marked the third 30-point game during conference play this season and the second by a road team during Big Ten play. Wisconsin's Jordan Taylor also posted a career high on Sunday with 28 against Northwestern.
Leader of the Pack:
Ohio State freshman Jared Sullinger became the first player in Big Ten history to be named conference Player of the Week four times as a freshman. Sullinger has also been recognized as the conference's Freshman of the Week nine out of the season's 11 weeks. The 6-9 center ranks second among all NCAA Division I freshmen with 17.9 points and 10.2 rebounds per game and is first with a 57.6 field-goal percentage.

Indiana's Verdell Jones III became the 42nd player in school history and the 16th active Big Ten player to eclipse the 1,000 career points milestone when he scored 15 against Wisconsin last week, upping his career total to 1,004. Also last week, Illinois' Mike Davis became the only active Big Ten player with 800 rebounds, grabbing seven against Ohio State. The Buckeyes' David Lighty became the eighth active conference player with 500 rebounds, pulling in five vs. Iowa, making him the 22nd player in school history with more than 1,000 points and 500 rebounds. He is just the second player in school annals with over 1,000 points, 500 rebounds and 300 assists.
Statistically Speaking:
Several Big Ten teams and players rank at the top of the NCAA's stat leaders, including Wisconsin, which leads the nation in assist-to-turnover ratio, turnovers per game and free-throw percentage. The Badgers' Jordan Taylor leads all players with an assist-to-turnover ratio of 4.14, while Northwestern's John Shurna paces the country with 54.0 percent shooting average from three-point range. Fast Starters:
With a 20-0 record, Ohio State remains one of only two undefeated teams in NCAA Division I, joining San Diego State. Ohio State's start is the third-best in program history and best since the 1961-62 Buckeyes started 22-0. The start is also the sixth-best in Big Ten history and is the longest undefeated streak to start a season since Illinois opened the 2004-05 schedule 29-0.�
Suits and Sneakers:
During games played Jan. 28-30, coaches across the country will wear sneakers with their suits to demonstrate their support for the American Cancer Society and its vision of a world with less cancer and more birthdays. Basketball fans are encouraged to wear sneakers to games over the weekend to share their support as well.
Programming Note:
The Big Ten Conference announced last week network designations and start times for games played Saturday and Sunday, Feb. 19 and 20. Saturday's schedule features a Big Ten Network doubleheader beginning at 4:30 p.m. ET as Iowa hosts Michigan. That game will be followed by Northwestern at Indiana at 7 p.m. ET. ESPN will broadcast the Illinois at Michigan State game at 9 p.m. ET and will be in East Lansing all day for its College GameDay show. On Sunday, CBS Sports will air the Ohio State at Purdue matchup at 1 p.m. ET, while the Big Ten Network will broadcast the Penn State at Wisconsin game at 6 p.m. ET.
